Although water filtration and chemical dosing are the fundamental mechanism in protecting you and your bathers within the swimming pool or spa environment, it is highly recommended and recognised in the industry to install secondary disinfection such as UV.
“Ultraviolet light (UV) is highly effective at inactivating bacteria and viruses and also for oxidising organic species in water, when utilising medium pressure polychromatic lamp technology. Ultraviolet disinfection consists of a physical, chemical-free process, attacking the vital DNA of the bacteria directly, including examples such as parasites, Cryptosporidium or Giardia, which are extremely resistant to chemical disinfectants. In addition, it reduces chloramines by a variety of mechanisms. UV technology has advanced to the point where it can easily enhance the disinfection and oxidation of all sorts of pools.”
With addition of correct UV disinfection, 99% of the organics within the water will be inactivated creating a noticeable atmospheric enhancement within the pool area, not to mention a saving on water usage but negating the constant requirement to dilute to the pool.
Commercially operated pools (hotels, schools, swim school and public pools) should be installed with Medium Pressure UV to give a dose of 60mj/cm2.
This dose will break down organics such as chloramines (the chlorine smell in a pool area), Bacteria/Micro-Organisms such as E-Coli, Cryptosporidium and Giardia.
Residential pool can have a low pressure UV with a lower dose of 30mj/cm2. Due to being used privately, residential pools usage is fair less than a commercial and do not require the higher dose to maintain perfect water quality.
Pool use from the original design often changes causing water clarity and water quality issues.
We can assist in utilising your current filtration system(if applicable), calculate the turn over of the pool, the correct bather loads and design a UV System to suit.
We have a portfolio of filtration refurbishment projects that have included UV systems to improve the water quality and protect the bather from waterborne bacteria.
